Nashville Coffee Shops Open Late: Where to Get Caffeine After 5 PM

12 South/Edgehill

Land of A Thousand Hills – the Edgehill location stays open until 9 all week (6 on Sundays) and the back half transforms into a social space at 6 pm. It’s literally business in the front, party in the back! (I’m super proud of myself for that one.)

The Salty – A great option in 12 South. Despite being the only non-local shop on this list, the Salty deserves a spot for being open until 8 during the week, and 10 on Fridays and Saturdays. And, their donuts are really good.

Berry Hill/WeHo/South Nash

8th & Roast – Melrose. The OG 8th & Roast location has dedicated parking, is cozy, and stays open til 6 every day.

Americano Lounge – WeHo. This moody spot is one of my favorite places to read. Their hours vary, but from Tues-Sat, they are open until at least 10.

Cafe Babu – WeHo. From Thursday-Saturday, catch Cafe Babu open until 9 pm. It’s designed for socializing, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a spot to work.

Humphrey’s Street – the WeHo location is open until 6, Mon-Fri (they close at 4 on the weekends). It’s a great option for extending your day just a little longer (and giving back to the community.

Paper Street – Berry Hill. Open Mon-Fri until 6:30 (and 5 on Sat/Sun).

Primitive – South Nash. Open until 9 M-F and 6 on Saturdays. (Closed Sundays)

Red Bicycle Woodbine – While this popular shop can fill up quickly, they’re open until 6 during the week and have a great food menu to keep you going.

Donelson

Caliber – open every day until 8 (but closed on Sunday). They also have a good food menu, so a great option if you need to work through dinner.

Sunflower Bakehouse – really more restaurant than coffee shop, but they do have a full coffee menu and some of my favorite baked goods (vegan and gluten free!), so it counts. Open until 9, except Sundays close at 3.

Downtown/Midtown

Crema – a Nashville institution, they’re open until 6 except Sundays close at 4 (same for the Brentwood location).

Kahawa – this gorgeous African themed coffee shop is open until 10 7 days a week – we love to see it.

East

Bongo East – the game board aficionado’s paradise is open until 10 every night.

Haraz – hours vary, but they’re open until at least 10 every night. Note: this is more of a social spot than a working spot.

International Tea & Coffee – open til 6 Wed-Sat (only until 5 the rest of the week and closed Monday).

Living Waters – coffee shop and brewery. At some point they mainly switch to beer, but it’s still a good hang with some n/a options. Open until 8 or 9 every night.

Sip Cafe – whether you’re craving coffee or ice cream, Sip has you covered until 9 during the week and 10 on Saturday and Sunday.

Ugly Mugs – a remote workers haven, Ugly Mugs is open until 6 every night.

Madison

Passage Kava – more of a kava bar than anything else, they do serve coffee and an array of mocktails and other (all n/a) beverages. And it’s the only option that’s open until 2 am – every day!

The Nations/West Nash

8th & Roast – The Charlotte location of 8&R is one of my favorite places for working, with lots of natural light and tons of seating. And they’re open until 6 every day.

Living Waters – same as the East location: coffee shop and brewery. At some point they mainly switch to beer, but it’s still a good hang with some n/a options. Open until 8 or 9 every night.

Cafe Sperry’s – head to Bellevue to find tons of parking, tons of seating, and good outlet placements. The back room is super cozy, too, with a library feel and fireplace. Open until 6 every day.

If it weren’t for Seattle, Music City could easily be renamed Coffee City thanks to the abundance of great, locally-owned coffee shops. While all of these shops provide caffeinated sustenance, not all of them are suitable for working. As Xennials, we’ve got lots to do, and post-pandemic, many of us are working outside of the office more than ever before. (Best Nashville Coffee Shops for Remote Work)

So, here is a list of some of the best coffee shops in Nashville to get things done. To even qualify for this list, a shop must be open until at least 5 pm (aka, the end of the work day). Other factors considered include noise level and availability of outlets, but I left the actual coffee tasting to your discerning palettes.

12 South/Edgehill

Land of A Thousand Hills

The Edgehill location stays open until 9 all week (6 on Sundays) and the back half transforms into a social space at 6 pm.

Downtown

Crema

For those who want the East Nashville experience without crossing the river, Crema might be the place for you. Hipster baristas and customers set the vibe at this trendy store, and the bright natural light and ample seating (including a large patio, if you’ve got a full battery charge) make it a great place for working.

Parking downtown can be tricky, but Crema has a metered lot with free 1.5 hour parking.

(While the Brentwood location is big and also open to 6, it gets so loud and crowded, working there can be a challenge.

East Nash

Living Waters Brewing

One of the most unique options on this list, you can grab a coffee or a beer (I promise I won’t tell!) while you knock out some work. So many options for seating, living room-esque decor, and they’re open until 10 for those night owls who still need to be productive.

It can get quite noisy, so keep that in mind.

Sip Cafe

Located in the Inglewood district of East Nashville, Sip Cafe is an unpretentious shop, both inside and out (although it is in an old bank, complete with teller stations). While there are plenty of outlets, they’re placed a little inconveniently, so keep that in mind. Because it’s also an ice cream shop, Sip is open until 9 which earns it major points, as does the fact that each drink is about a dollar cheaper than at any other shop in Nashville.

Ugly Mugs

Comfy, cozy, and full of people working, Ugly Mugs is an oasis off of bustling Eastland Ave. With all of the East Nash vibes and a full sandwich menu to go along with their inventive drinks, Ugly Mugs is a great place to grab a cup and stay a while.

The Nations/Sylvan Park

The Nations has quickly become one of my favorite areas of town, thanks to the multitude of great food and brewery options and the lack of tourist traffic. And, Sylvan Park has all the old Nashville charm you could ever want. The area also delivers on coffee shops, with three making the “best of” list (and one an honorable mention)!

8th and Roast

The Nations/Sylvan Park installation of this popular Wedgewood coffee shop is bright, big, and full of people of all ages working away. The noise level is usually minimal because most everyone is on their laptop, although they do offer a couple couches and comfy chairs for those needing to meet a client or colleague or to just catch up on some reading.

Dose

Dose is the perfect set-up for working – lots of individual seating with plenty of outlets. And, they offer delicious sandwiches (as well as the usual pastries, etc.), if you need to refuel with food.

In the mornings it can be quite busy and outlet placement isn’t ideal.

Ramblin’ Joes

Ramblin’ Joes is a Memphis-based coffee shop that closes at 4, not technically qualifying for this list. However, they offer FREE PRINTING – up to 10 pages – making them a great working option.

Living Waters Brewing

The more well-lit version of the East Nashville shop, this is a great place to lock in, and refuel with Badluck Burger Club.

South Nashville

The Horn

The Horn is a Somalian café known for their chai and sambusas (phenomenal!). With an outlet at every table, it’s perfect for settling in to crank things out.

The Horn also has a Midtown location, but those hours are more limited.

Primitive 

Open Wed-Sun until 8:30. (Closed Sundays, and open until 5 on Monday/Tuesday.)

Red Bicycle Woodbine

While this popular shop can fill up quickly, and the back-supported seating is limited, they’re open until 7 during the week (!!) and have a great food menu to keep you going.

A little extra: The address is on Nolensville Pike, but there’s no entrance to the parking lot off the main road (just a curb that’s really easy to miss…) Instead, turn onto the cross street, Vivelle Ave., and enter the lot from there.

Wedgewood-Houston

Americano Lounge

Travel back in time to the Jazz Age with this beautiful coffee shop/bar combination. With both well-lit tables and moody seating that fits the ambiance of Houston Station, Americano Lounge is a great place to knock out some work and transition straight into happy hour.

Humphrey’s Street Coffee Co.

Located in a converted old church, Humphrey’s Street Coffee is a bright, airy shop with tons of seating both indoors and outdoors (including a couple of old church pews), and there are plenty of outlets scattered around.

Best of all, Humphrey’s Street is a social enterprise of Harvest Hands, both employing students from South Nashville, as well as reinvesting profits into programs and scholarships. The Burbs

Are Bellevue, West Nashville, and Donelson the ‘burbs? Debatable. But, either way, these coffee shops make the drive worth it.

Caliber Coffee

Hip Donelson is slowly starting to live up to it’s name, and Caliber Coffee has a lot to do with that. With inventive drinks and a friendly staff, Caliber is a fun stop for any reason.

Because it is so popular and a smaller space, it can sometimes be crowded which amplifies the noise. If you can handle a little distraction, though (or have good ear buds), they’re open until 8 pm (!!), so you can really knock some things out. And don’t skip the food – Caliber has one of the best (and most affordable) salads in town.

Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee

Although Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee is a small chain, it feels like anything but. Attached to the Cortland West residential complex, Land of a Thousand Hills occupies a beautiful building that gives off major ski-lodge vibes.

Cafe Sperry’s

Tons of parking, tons of seating, and good outlet placements. The back room is super cozy, too, with a library feel and fireplace.

The Well – Bellevue

Another caused-based coffee house, the Well supports clean water initiatives throughout the world – including right here at home after the 2020 tornado. The Bellevue installation is spacious and industrial and less crowded and noisy than its other locations.

The Best Breakfast Spots in Nashville

Red Headed Stranger – The breakfast tacos are so good. And if you get a frozen marg with breakfast, we won’t tell. In East Nash.

Five Daughters Bakery – Nashville’s most famous bakery, their 100 layer donuts are worth the calories. (They also have mini versions and paleo versions so everyone can have a treat). Various locations.

Wanna Spoon Cereal Bar – there’s nothing quite like cereal and milk for breakfast, and even better if it’s accompanied by a latte. This one is also great for the kids, with a huge backyard for them to run around (and lots of photo ops!) In 12 South

Caliber Coffee – the friendliest coffee shop around, they offer pastries, breakfast sandwiches, chia pudding, and more. In Donelson.

Ladybird Taco – Another delicious breakfast taco spot, be sure to try all of their salsas, as well. And if you want a little boozy addition, head to the East Nash location. 12 South and East.

Crieve Hall Bagel Co. – delicious bagels and schmear, as well as other baked goods (I’m so eager to try their cinnamon roll!). And, if you go on your birthday, you can claim a free bagel! In Crieve Hall/South Nash

Red Bicycle Coffee – crepes, sandwiches, tacos – there’s something for everyone at Red Bicycle. Various locations.

Nashville has so many great coffee shops, but here are some of the best for achieving peak coziness.

☕ 8th & Roast – the OG location has recently been remodeled and it is SO cozy. Exposed brick, moody lighting, and more seating then it used to have (you’ll find the Charlotte 8&R on my best coffee shops for working list!)

☕ Americano Lounge – It’s giving jazz age, with oversized furniture, an aesthetic fireplace, and occasional live music. (Plus an impressive espresso martini menu!)

☕ Cafe Babu – coffee shop by day, wine/cocktail bar at night, Cafe Babu has a Mediterranean vibe and is intentionally curated for conversation and community.

☕ Cafe Sperry’s – the back room of this shop feels like a wealthy person’s library, with plush leather chairs and a fireplace.

☕ Hanna Bee – cozy, but make it bright! The East Nashville location of Hanna Bee has great seating, but plenty of natural light to warm you through the windows.

☕ Headquarters – this tiny spot on Charlotte Pike gives all the warm, cozy vibes – and their hidden patio only adds to the quaintness.

☕ Land of a Thousand Hills West – Hang in a ski-lodge-esque setting, support a great cause.

☕ The Loading Dock – recently re-opened in a new spot in North Nash, this long-time Nashville favorite has ALL the cozy vibes, from shabby chic furniture, to an electric fire, to an extensive tea collection.

☕ Perenn – this French-inspired bakery in South Nash has an upstairs that feels like a cozy, leather-bound library. Perfect for deep work or reading with a delicious latte and baguette.

☕ Sam & Zoe’s – once turned into a Luke’s for a national Gilmore Girls pop-up, Sam & Zoe’s has charm and a great front porch.

☕ The Good Cup (Franklin) – worth the drive, the Good Cup is the epitome of shabby chic and also serves ambrosia as one of their lunch sides, which is always a win in my book.
☕ 2nd and Bridge (Franklin) – right in downtown Franklin, we love a restored historic home, complete with creaky floors. It’s always crowded, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies to find a spot.

Nashville – Coffee Shop and Cocktail Bar Review: Cafe Babu

Nashville has no shortage of coffee shops OR cocktail bars. But, this cozy coffee and cocktail combo is all the rage in Nashville right now, and for good reason!

Designed in a Mediterranean style with rustic walls, Cafe Babu is anything but rustic. From the moment you walk in, the space is welcoming and warm, intentionally designed for conversation and community.

By day, they serve coffee and pastries. At night, you can find wine and cocktails with a small food menu (do NOT skip the whipped feta!).

The space is small, so during peak times, you may have a wait. Early in the week, you may find some people working; however, the vibe is much more conducive to a chill meet up with friends or a cozy date. And as the whether gets warmer, I know that patio is going to be the place to be.

Parking is street parking and fairly ample within a block or so walking distance.

Be sure to follow Cafe Babu on Instagram for their special events and other announcements. They’re always doing something fun (at time of publication, they have a daytime house party coming up!)

The Butter Milk Ranch – Everyone’s favorite breakfast/lunch restaurant has three boozy coffee options! Just be sure to go at an off-time or get on the wait list early! BMR is popular for a reason.

Downtown

Cafe Intermezzo – a European cafe; charming, but they don’t take reservations, so remember that at peak times!

Church & Union – upscale but not stuffy – make sure you look up!

Jeff Ruby’s – enhance your steak dinner with a classic espresso martini

Pinewood Social – they serve Crema coffee, so you know it’ll be good. Not listed on the menu, but I feel confident they serve this regularly (still, check first).

The Twelve Thirty Club – Even for a non-coffee drinker like me, this one is delicious.

Sinatra – a swanky experience for a swanky cocktail

Skulls Rainbow Room – one of the most celebrated (and haunted!) bars in Nashville. At time of publication, there is no espresso martini on the menu although it was recommended, so it may be seasonal.

The Standard – old school vibes for a classy night out. Their espresso martini is not on the menu, so double check before heading out.

Standard Proof – a whiskey version

Donelson

TennFold – a casual brewery with a full food menu so great for the whole family. Yet, someone said their espresso martini was “the BEST I have EVER had!”

East Nash

Cafe Roze – cozy and romantic, but also great for brunch with the girls

The Fox Bar and Cocktail Club – One of the most celebrated bars in Nashville with a speak-easy feel

Golden Pony – a chill hang with tons of parking

Jane’s Hideaway – excellent cocktails, excellent music, excellent vibes

Love and Exile – a frozen version; I’ve never had something at Love and Exile I didn’t love.

Pearl Diver – One of my friends describes her decorative aesthetic as “jungle chic”, and I can’t think of a better description for Pearl Diver’s tropical vibe.

Sid Gold’s – piano bar karaoke, sing alongs, and a cold brew twist on the espresso martini

Germantown

Barrel Proof – one of my favorite bars; their version is on-tap and made with Elegy coffee. And, they have a $10 burger and fries combo!

Germantown Cafe – classy and classic. AND on happy hour for $5.00!!

Le Loup – a cozy and elegant cocktail and oyster bar above the Optimist; no online menu, but they have an extensive cocktail menu, so I feel confident this is a solid recommendation

Pelato – also serves a frozen version! One of the most frequently recommended on this list!

Green Hills

Santo – Mediterranean restaurant that makes theirs with tequila!

The Gulch

L.A. Jackson – If you can handle the tourists, L.A. Jackson at the top of the Thompson Hotel offers a delicious espresso martini, also available in large format.

Marsh House – it’s the same hotel as LA Jackson, so it would make sense that they would also have a great tini

Pullman Standard – this 1920s-era bar deserves more attention; everything is great.

Midtown

Land of a Thousand Hills Edgehill – part coffee shop, part craft cocktail bar, their version is on tap and you would never know it wasn’t shaken right then.

Old Glory – a hidden entrance in Edgehill

North Nash

Grandpa Bar – part coffee shop, part bar, Grandpa offers FIVE espresso martini varieties. Warm, friendly, delicious (with house made syrups), Grandpa Bar is a locals fave.

1865 Club – speakeasy that feels like you’re in an elegant cafe. It’s a vibe.

Sylvan Park

Lola – Theirs is combined with their delicious house made chai for a tasty twist.

Wedgewood-Houston

Americano Lounge – Another coffee shop turned bar, Americano Lounge has at least four coffee-based libations to suit your palate.

Dicey’s – not a permanent fixture but the frozen comes recommended if you can get it.

Killjoy – if you want the fun without the hangover, Nashville’s only zero-proof bottle store carries an NA version!

Good Times – this one was recommended, but I don’t see it on their menu. So, proceed with caution.

Multiple Locations:

Common Ground – Berry Hill and Sylvan Park; both feature flavored varieties and large format!

Suburbs:

Calabria – Mt. Juliet; affordable drinks and the most delicious garlic knots I’ve ever had.

Stable Reserve – Franklin; made with a bourbon cream liqueur

Others:

These are ones not mentioned by my followers, but likely worth trying out!

12 South

Urban Grub – The 12South staple offers an espresso martini regularly, but features 2 additional coffee cocktails on their brunch menu.

Downtown

Hampton Social – a Grey Goose version, also available in large format

The River House – upscale with a dress code

Germantown

Geist – Geist’s vibe fits a bougie drink. While I suspect that many place’s espresso martinis are actually cold brew cocktails, Geist’s definitely is, so keep that in mind if you’re a purist.

Marathon Village

Greenbrier Distillery – One of my favorite brunches, and they make the liquor on site, so that’s a pretty good sign…

Midtown

Henley – using Honest Coffee Roasters espresso, Henley’s option is currently only on the brunch menu, so give them a call first if you’re wanting to try it another time.

Hi-Fi Clyde’s – pairs well with the hangover-cure brunch menu (but it’s actually really good)

Tavern – Nashville’s favorite brunch is back, serving an espresso martini with a citrus twist

White Limozeen – If ever a restaurant was designed specifically for Instagram, it’s White Limozeen at the top of the Graduate hotel.

The Gulch

Two Hands – their version has a “banana bread” spin with oat milk and crème de banane

A little extra: park in the Prima Garage and Two Hands will give you a code for up to 2.5 hours free parking.

Mockingbird – made with Frothy Monkey cold brew

Wedgewood Houston

Earnest Bar and Hideaway – The restaurant pays homage to Ernest Hemingway and seems to only offer their version at brunch. Hemingway himself would surely approve of some day drinking.

Multiple Locations:

Snooze – the Gulch and East; one of the few chain restaurants I really crave. It’s so good!

Long ago, a friend asked me where to go to read after work. It was such a good question because there were no easy answers. Most Nashville coffee shops close early, so where do you go if you want to read a book around other people, or with a drink that you did not make?

Fortunately, there are a few places that can accommodate a social bookworm. The following places all meet my criteria of:

• a) open past 6:00
• b) not too loud
• c) not too dark, and
• d) offers beverages (with or without booze).

Americano Lounge -This Jazz Age coffee shop also offers cocktails and cozy seating. Just be mindful of jazz or poetry nights, etc., if you’re looking for a quieter vibe. In WeHo

Caliber Coffee – a traditional coffee shop, Caliber is thankfully open until 8 pm. They also have good small meals if you’re hungry and they’re just the nicest people. In Donelson.

The Chloe – The beautiful boutique hotel has multiple bars, a fireplace, and plenty of cozy seating. IMPORTANT NOTE: The parking out front is free, but it is back-in only. I didn’t park directly in front of a sign, so I didn’t see it and was greeted with a nice parking ticket from the city when I left… In Hillsboro Village.

The Hermitage Hotel – yes, you have to go downtown for this one, but it’s stunning and there’s a bar right in the lobby (and those famous bathrooms!)

Hutton Hotel – Iots of couches and plush chairs throughout, but you also have easy access to Evelyn’s and their delicious food and drinks. One of my favorite hotel restaurants – it is very good. In Midtown.

The Joseph – Another hotel lobby, I love the studious vibe of the Joseph a fireplace, desk lamps, and open reference books. For serious readers only! Downtown.

Kahawa Coffee – This Swahili coffee shop is a VIBE and opened until 10 7 days a week. It’s also huge, so plenty of room to spread out. In

Land of a Thousand Hills Edgehill – open til 9 during the week, LTH offers both coffee and cocktails, for whatever suits your mood!

Restoration Hardware – Did you know you can order from the bar and wander around the store, making yourself at home? Is it terrifying to have red wine in your hand on those expensive couches? A little. But also exhilarating. And it’s the best rooftop for reading for sure. In Green Hills.

Urban Cowboy Parlor Bar – we all know and love the outdoor bar, but have you been to Parlor Bar inside? It’s a very aesthetic wine bar, perfect for finding a cozy corner. In East.

I recognize that a significant proportion of my followers are women, which I think is probably true of most city-centric platforms.

But, I really try to be inclusive of all different types of people, tastes, interests, etc – just because we are all Gen X’ers, Xennials, or Elder Millenials doesn’t mean we’re all alike.

So, this one’s for the dudes. I really appreciate y’all sticking around, despite the florals and pink drinks that so often grace my feed, and Nashville has plenty of more masculine places to hang, from meat and beer joints to live music to a more sophisticated night on the town. Here’s to guys’ night!

Food

These spots offer great bites, cold drinks, and usually something else to do while you’re hanging out.

Baja Burrito – Baja Burrito is just one of my favorite spots in Nashville. No frills, just really, really good made-to-order food (think Chipotle, but so much better).

Bringle’s – Barbecue and an outdoor space with HUGE screens and lawn games – I rest my case. They also post on their socials which games they’ll be showing on the big screens and/or with sound, so you can know going in.

Brown’s Diner – a Nashville institution, Brown’s offers good burgers, cold beer, and live music most nights. It’s in a trailer (that they recently added a patio to – swanky!), so it’s definitely giving dive.

Earnest – channel your inner Ernest Hemingway and order a rum drink at this restaurant that was originally designed with the author in mind.

Joyland – if you miss the days of grabbing a burger after the game with some buds, Joyland is the spot for you. It’s modern-old school in the best ways possible.

Martin’s Downtown – TBH, Martin’s is not my favorite bbq in town (everyone’s got their own fave, so don’t get mad!). But the space at the downtown location is tough to beat, especially for groups.

Midnight Oil – I made the mistake of ordering a Midnight Oil pizza for myself one time. Each slice was the size of my head – and it was delicious. Another no-frills spot that’s a great local hang in the Nations.

M.L. Rose – similarly to Martin’s, ML Rose is not my favorite burger. But, they are one of my favorite spots for watching a game, hanging on the patio (shout out Sylvan Park location), or grabbing a beer with some friend – they have some of the best beer specials.

Nashville Jam Co. – for a brunch worthy of even the heartiest man, check out Nashville Jam Company where the food is great, the portions are huge, and the mimosas are served in 16 oz. tumblers!

The Ridge – now this is one of my favorite bbq places in town, and it’s off the beaten path, so you never have to wait long for your food. Huge portions and lots of drink specials if you time it right.

Rock’N Dough – you know I love Rock’N Dough, but here’s why it’s great for guys night – a GIANT screen for whatever the game of the night is, tons of space, over 150 whiskeys, and craft beer brewed at their flagship location in West Tennessee. Oh, and good pizza.

Streetcar – this new spot on Charlotte Ave. has all the makings of Sylvan Park/the Nations’ new favorite neighborhood hang. Its outdoor beer garden with picnic tables is perfect for a night out with the boys.

Scoreboard – good, old fashioned bar food, reasonably priced drinks, and live music or sports (or both!) while you eat. The enclosed outdoor space has a tiki bar vibe all year round.

Twilight Tavern – one of the best places to watch sports, Twilight Tavern has a zillion TVs and its seldom overly crowded. Their bar food is some of the best in town, IMO, and they offer 2-4-1 drafts on Sundays. ON SUNDAYS!

Von Elrod’s – a beer garden with a ton of German (and other) beers on tap, as well as German-inspired bar food. Plus, their community style seating is just a fun time.

Drinks

While some of these spots might have some small snacks, they’re really more known for the beverages.

Americano Lounge – Americano Lounge is a Jazz Era vibe, and whether you’re wanting cocktails or coffee, they’ve got it covered. Pairs well with Earnest, just down the street.

Brew Hop – maybe more of a guys’ day than a guys’ night activity, Brew Hop will take you and your crew around to 7 different breweries, and you can hop on and off all day. They also offer a locals’ discount – use code “LOCAL615” for $6.15 off your ticket.

Embers Ski Lodge – Embers has great HH specials and just a fun vibe. Some good snacks, too (the coconut shrimp, omg).

Never Never – this is probably the coolest “dive” I’ve ever been to. The walls are painted black and it looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, yet they serve delicious cocktails (and beer, of course) and have a great outdoor space, in front and in the back.

New Heights – I probably could have put every brewery in Nashville on this list, honestly – there are a ton and they’re all good. I love New Heights, though. Warehouse-y, creative brews, and a very loyal mug club make this a great spot for a chill bro hang.

Patterson House – PH is the type of spot that makes me want to smoke a cigar – speakeasy feels and craft cocktails, it’s the essence of cool.

Urban Cowboy – this bar was the first place I ever experienced a pretentious “mixologist”. But, that’s how you know the drinks are good. The space is cool and gives Western vibes, and the outdoor firepit adds to the ambiance.

Activities

When you just want to get out and burn some energy, with or without food/drinks, these places have you covered.

The Basement East – you’ll have to wait for a show for this one, but this place is literally named the Beast. It doesn’t get much less feminine than that. They have all kinds of fun shows that appeal to a variety of genres, ages, genders, and tastes.

HQ Arcade – Nashville has several arcades, which is just so fun. HQ has historically been one of my faves because of the vibe, extensive draft list, and old school arcade and pinball games. But, No Quarter and Game Terminal are other great options.

McCabe Golf Course – another guys’ day option, book yourself a tee time at McCabe Golf Course. But almost every man I’ve ever met raves about it whenever Sylvan Park comes up. So, I take that as a good sign.

Pins Mechanical – pin bowling, giant beer pong, giant Jenga, pinball machines and more, Pins Mechanical is just a giant, fun, loud playground.

Santa’s Pub – a trailer that sells cash-only beer ($2.50 PBRs, last time I was there, although inflation may have raised the price) and offers the best karaoke in town, Santa’s Pub is a must. But, go early or on an off-day to avoid the crowds.

Tee Line – part sports bar, part curling facility, Tee Line offers sports you can play, sports you can watch, and food and drink to refuel after either/both.

Zanies – friends who laugh together, stay together. Or something like that. Zanies brings in some of the top level talent in the comedic game. And, on Mondays, you can hear new material from a variety of folks, so you never know what you’ll get!

So, there you have it! I will admit that I ran my initial list past one of my guy friends, so many of these additions are his suggestions – still vetted by me, though!

With my friends at 12 South Carriage House (the best Airbnb in 12 South – seriously, read the reviews!), we’ve put together the Xennial’s guide to 12 South – an itinerary for people of all ages who want to experience the local flavor of this special neighborhood. Read on for our tips!

Brunch – Ladybird Taco

Kick off your day with some breakfast tacos at Ladybird. Although it’s located one block over on 10th Avenue South, there’s still nowhere else in the neighborhood we’d recommend more highly. The tortillas are house-made, the brisket is delicious, and the “loaded up queso” really can’t be beat.

Shopping – White’s Mercantile and Imogene + Willie

Next, get in some shopping at some Nashville-original shops. We always find ourselves drifting into White’s Mercantile and Imogene + Willie both for their wares and the shared artisan-industrial vibe. White’s carries home goods and gifts (although we won’t tell if that gift turns into your own souvenir) and I+W handmakes clothing with an emphasis on denim goods and what will totally be your new “old favorite tee.”

Mural Walk – Just a Few Gents and Lego Men

While you’re browsing, don’t forget to keep an eye out for Nashville’s famed murals! The neighborhood has quite a few murals to enjoy as you walk and many of them are tucked in hidden places (i.e., off the tourist radar). You can find a full list of them HERE on the 12 South Carriage House website but our two favorites are “Just A Few Gents” (12 South Tap Room) and the two Lego Men (Imogene + Willie and the alley behind Frothy Monkey)

Refuel – Portland Brew

If all that walking has your energy lagging, Portland Brew is the perfect spot for a pick-me-up. PB is one of those coffee shops that just has everything – cozy nooks for studying; bright spaces perfect for catching up with a friend; and, of course, delicious coffee, giant cookies, and a full sandwich menu. Their drinks are affordable and they offer a wide variety of options for the non-coffee drinker (one of my favorite chais in town, a great selection of teas, frappes, and even Italian sodas).

Afternoon Stroll – Sevier Park

Coffee in hand, continue down the avenue to Sevier Park. This beautiful green space is a favorite of locals and visitors alike with outdoor recreational areas such as tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment, and a paved walking path. The community center houses a gym & fitness center and the 12 South Farmers’ Market is a delicious and fun seasonal offering. Sevier Park is currently renovating several historic buildings & facilities to restore their former beauty and add some amazing upgrades!

Dinner – Epice

When it’s time for another meal, Epice is a must-do. Don’t let the restaurant’s size fool you – it is one of the most unique spots in Nashville. Small but not crowded, minimalist yet stylish, this Lebanese eatery feels on par with the trendiest New York bistro. The food is extremely flavorful, the service fantastic, and it’s the perfect spot for a sophisticated date or girls night. Reservations are highly recommended.

Post-Dinner Drinks – Josephine

To round out the day, head to Josephine for after-dinner drinks. Josephine’s sommelier has carefully curated an excellent wine list, or if you’re in the mood for something more unique, you can choose from their specialty cocktails. The vibe is intimate, cozy, and local and the perfect night cap for your day in 12 South.

Stay – 12 South Carriage House

Instead of just spending the day, turn your visit into a stay-cation and book a reservation at The 12 South Carriage House. This 1 bedroom/1 bath space is stocked with everything you need and all the extras. Located just three houses off 12 Avenue, you are literally steps from all the amazing shopping/dining/leisure activities listed here and so many more.  The only thing more top-notch than the space itself is the hospitality and we promise you’ll have a 5-star experience.
