We LOVE our bars and restaurants around here, but sometimes you want to do something that does not require consuming calories. Whether you’re local or visiting, if you’re taking a break from drinking, or just want something to do that isn’t food-related, these Nashville activities are perfect for families, solo outings, date nights, and girls’ nights out. There’s really something for everyone! Things to do in Nashville besides drinking (or eating!)

Creative & Hands-On Nashville Activities

✨ Learn a new skill at a workshop! Take advantage of all the creativity in this city by learning from some of the best. A few I’ve personally enjoyed have been ceramics with Cloudship Creative; mosaic art with 7 Fine Arts; sewing with Sew Nash; and custom perfumery with Secret Garden Botanica.

Some other great crafty options are Nashville Craft Club, Hoamsy, Smart Arts & Crafts, and Turnip Green Creative Reuse.

✨ Explore 100 Taylor Street! You’ll find a cute bookstore, a coffee shop, some gorgeous handcrafted jewelry, a ceramics store that offers classes, and so much more!

✨ Therapaint – if you’re needing a creative, therapeutic outlet, check out Therapaint where you can process your emotions by literally throwing paint.

✨ Make your own lipstick at Lip Lab – if may be intended for bachelorette parties but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a fun thing for locals, too!

Museums, History, & Cultural Experiences in Nashville

✨ Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum – Yes, this is touristy, and yes it involves going downtown. But, y’all, the CMHOF is truly a GREAT museum and a must-visit for any music, history, or pop-culture lover.

✨ National Museum of African American History – speaking of museums, Nashville also is home to the NMAAM. And if you want to save, you can pop-in when it’s free on the first Wednesday of every month!

✨ The Frist – with no permanent exhibit, there’s always something new to see at this beautiful art museum downtown. They also have special events, so give them a follow to keep up on the latest.

✨ The Hermitage: Home of Andrew Jackson, the Hermitage is a history lover’s dream, but they also host special events like runs, ghost tours, book discussions, and much more. And the grounds – and the horses – are beautiful.

✨ Check out the Nashville Public Library. Here me out on this one…besides the obvious, NPL offers museum passes, starter seeds, BCycle passes, and tons of events for all ages.

✨ Tour Lane Motor Museum, Nashville’s unique and antique car museum with the largest European automotive collection in the US.

Outdoor Activities & Nature in Nashville

✨ Go for a hike! Literally, not figuratively. Nashville has many great parks to choose from, but Percy Warner and Radnor are faves.

✨ Cheekwood – the grounds are lovely all times of the year, but don’t miss the mansion art gallery with rotating exhibits, or the special events throughout the seasons.

✨ The Zoo – take the kids (or don’t), go for a special event or just a regular day, there’s always something fun going on at the Zoo!

✨ Try a community workout like the Capitol Steps Workout on Mondays and Thursdays, yoga in Church Street Park (in season), or one of the brewery run clubs!

✨ Get Up & Go Kayaking on Old Hickory Lake – take a clear kayak tour under the relaxing Tennessee sunshine on this adventure less than 45 minutes from Nashville! Shows, Music, Movies & Live Entertainment

✨ Cut a rug at the American Legion Post 82 on Thursdays and support veterans and the community (or visit on another night for songwriters rounds, bluegrass pickin’, karaoke, and more). Drinks are not required, but purchases do support the venue, so maybe pick up a Liquid Death if you don’t want to imbibe. Or visit the Nashville Palace for line dancing on Fridays and Saturdays and lessons during the week.

✨ Belcourt Theater – Catching an indie or blockbuster film at Nashville’s oldest movie theater is always a great idea (of course, personally, I have to have popcorn and soda at the movies, but you may have more restraint than me)

✨ What’s Music City without some music? While many venues will have a food or drink purchase requirement (or implicit expectation), some venues lend themselves to just enjoying the tunes: Basement East, Brooklyn Bowl, Cannery Hall – and of course, the Ryman.

✨ Take in a comedy show at Third Coast Comedy Club! While I’m sure they’d appreciate your patronizing the bar, it is not required!

Fun Indoor Activities (Rainy-Day or Anytime)

✨ McKay’s – the giant used bookstore in west Nashville could be an all day activity. From books, to records, to instruments and toys, there’s something for every hobbyist to get lost in.

✨ Visit Up/Down, No Quarter, or Game Terminal for some old school arcade fun, along with other games and activities (Game Terminal has a huge outdoor space with several corn hole lanes).

✨ While they might not be as trendy anymore, escape rooms are still a fun rainy day activity. The original Escape Game is based in Berry Hill, and they have multiple locations in Nashville that are clean and well-organized – as well as a Great Big Game Show game, where you and your friends can compete in game-show style games (I had a blast doing it).

✨ Read a book after hours at one of these great spots! Okay, so you may need to buy a coffee or a cocktail for this one, but the focus is not on food or drink. All of these places lend themselves to cozying up with a good book.

✨ While we’re on the subject, lots of great book clubs and writers meetups in town. Here are a few:

• Silent Book Club – perfect for the introverts, and they host all kinds of events all over the city
• Sugar & Spice Book Club – for the romance girlies!
• Freehand Nashville – monthly creative writing meetup
• ShutUp Writing – 2x monthly to “write in the same room”

✨ Game nights are all the rage right now! Here are a few, but follow me on Instagram for even more ideas. Mahjong Soiree, Missy Mahjong, and Nashville Backgammon Club. Or, if you want to play your own game, grab some friends and head to Bongo East/Game Point – you should buy something, but it can be minimal like coffee or tea.

Shopping, Wellness & Self-Care in Nashville

✨ Treat yourself to some self-care! There are many spas and wellness centers around town but a few that I’ve enjoyed:

What to Pack for Nashville: Clothes/Shoes

Nashville is a trendy but casual town – think the latest cuts of jeans and a cute top, rather than a little black dress and stilettos (of course, wear whatever makes you feel best!)

And while locals don’t actually wear cowboy boots or hats, it’s honestly part of the fun of visiting. So, bring the boots, bring the bling, and have a great time!

Here are some ideas of what to pack for Nashville for every occasion:

Brunch:

Vibe: Effortlessly chic. Check out this ruffled bodysuit, and pair it with some breezy palazzo pants, or go for a pretty sundress or chic pantsuit. Add these cute Crocs sandals (yes, I said cute and crocks in the same sentence!) or these Hermes dupes, and finish it off with a cute crossbody bag.

For winter vibes, keep the bodysuit, swap the palazzos for trouser jeans, and grab a suede blazer and some fashion sneakers for a put together look.

Mani/Pedis:

Vibe: An influencer running errands. These matching sets are all the rage (check out this cute pant set and this one with shorts). Add a cute hat (obsessed with this espresso martini hat, and these two with a bow and a simple heart), and then slip on some sandals that won’t mess up your pedicure.

PJs:

Vibe: Comfy, but cute because you’re on vacation! Check out these cutie sets (love this ribbed set, and also these silky ones), and pair with a cozy robe and some fuzzy slippers!

Broadway:

Vibe: Anything goes, and you can get away with ALL the bling! Try a denim dress (this sleeveless version comes in pink and black, too, and I like the collar on this style) or jump suit with a rhinestone belt and pair with a fun set of sparkly boots (with fringe!).

Concerts:

Vibe: Channel your inner country star. Bell bottoms with a body suit and a blingy denim jacket are a great move here. And clear bags are a must (like, actually – you have to have one for most of the concert venues)

And if you’re heading to a concert outdoors (the lawn at Ascend Amphitheater is always the move), be sure to bring a great lawn blanket!

Or, pair a cute graphic tee (love this Dolly t-shirt and this birth year tee – shout out to my 1985 babies) with your favorite jeans and a blingy cowboy hat!

Sunglasses:

Pairs well with all outfits. Check out these 1970s-vibed lenses or a fun pair of Goodrs!

Shoes:

In general, Nashville isn’t a very walkable town. So, you’ll probably want to Uber most places, but you can expect some walking Downtown or around the neighborhood where you stay so keep comfort in mind. (On Broadway, most of the bars are 4+ levels, and there aren’t many elevators. JUST FYI).

Here are some boot, sneakers, and sandal options to keep you stylish and comfy!

Boots: Love these tall sparkle fringe boots. Here is another fun ankle-length rhinestone option, or go more traditional with a little pizazz.

Sneakers: Dress them up (gold or pink?) or stick with the dad sneakers. Either way, your feet will thank you.

Sandals: Love a platform or flat sandal for a pretty look that’s easy to cover some ground.

And when your feet just can’t take it anymore, slip into these foldable flats and have some blister band-aids and foot masks on hand!

Emergency supplies:

Don’t let a fashion emergency ruin your night out. Stock up on some safety pins, clothing tape, and Tide Pens so you’re always prepared!

And don’t forget a lint roller and travel steamer!

Packing Essentials:

• Use a vacation as an excuse to get yourself a cute new luggage set. These colorful sets will be hard to lose, and these neutral carry-ons look more expensive than they are.
• Make sure you don’t start the trip off with any mix-ups by labeling your bags with these cute luggage tags!
• Keep your clothes, shoes, and accessories neat and organized with these compressed traveling cubes (giving you more room to buy things here!)

What to Pack for Nashville? I’m not saying you’ll need a hangover kit…I’m just saying it’s good to be prepared.

• Water bottle (this pink tie dye bottle is so cute and comes in way more colors – plus you can actually find Stanley’s on Amazon now??)
• Pedialyte or Liquid IV powders (easy to pack!)
• Ibuprofen
• Tums
• Eye mask to block out the dreaded sun – I have this one which is great for lashes, but I love a weighted mask for a headache, too.
• Sound machine – essential if you’re staying with other people
• Eye masks to help you look refreshed again!

While a hangover may be inevitable, keep yourself safe from anything worse with this drink scrunchie that covers the top of your drink. Nashville is generally safe, but it just takes one bad apple – don’t give them an opportunity!

Weather Related

Nashville weather can be beautiful – but it can also change on a dime. So, be ready for anything with some of these essentials.

• This mini umbrella is so cute and easy to pack. Or, bring a poncho or rain jacket for outdoor shows.
• Bug spray. It’s the South. (Here is a natural version.)
• Sunscreen. It’s the South. (And here’s an organic spray.)
• And don’t forget your sunnies! I have this trendy version that’s reminiscent of Travis Kelce and really blocks the sun. And you can also find Goodrs on Amazon!
• Nothing beats a summer evening on the lawn at a great show or an open air movie. Be sure you bring a great lawn blanket!

If you’re the trip planner, you know someone is probably going to forget these things. Might as well stock up!

Wedgewood Houston Farmers Market is back weekly this year, and it’s a fun one – and I think the only one that features swings!

All of the farmers markets have clearly marked parking (although some fill up fast, so be prepared to circle or park in a neighborhood). A couple are year round, but most are seasonal, so be sure to check their socials for dates and times!

With my friends at 12 South Carriage House (the best Airbnb in 12 South – seriously, read the reviews!), we’ve put together the Xennial’s guide to 12 South – an itinerary for people of all ages who want to experience the local flavor of this special neighborhood. Read on for our tips!

Brunch – Ladybird Taco

Kick off your day with some breakfast tacos at Ladybird. Although it’s located one block over on 10th Avenue South, there’s still nowhere else in the neighborhood we’d recommend more highly. The tortillas are house-made, the brisket is delicious, and the “loaded up queso” really can’t be beat.

Shopping – White’s Mercantile and Imogene + Willie

Next, get in some shopping at some Nashville-original shops. We always find ourselves drifting into White’s Mercantile and Imogene + Willie both for their wares and the shared artisan-industrial vibe. White’s carries home goods and gifts (although we won’t tell if that gift turns into your own souvenir) and I+W handmakes clothing with an emphasis on denim goods and what will totally be your new “old favorite tee.”

Mural Walk – Just a Few Gents and Lego Men

While you’re browsing, don’t forget to keep an eye out for Nashville’s famed murals! The neighborhood has quite a few murals to enjoy as you walk and many of them are tucked in hidden places (i.e., off the tourist radar). You can find a full list of them HERE on the 12 South Carriage House website but our two favorites are “Just A Few Gents” (12 South Tap Room) and the two Lego Men (Imogene + Willie and the alley behind Frothy Monkey)

Refuel – Portland Brew

If all that walking has your energy lagging, Portland Brew is the perfect spot for a pick-me-up. PB is one of those coffee shops that just has everything – cozy nooks for studying; bright spaces perfect for catching up with a friend; and, of course, delicious coffee, giant cookies, and a full sandwich menu. Their drinks are affordable and they offer a wide variety of options for the non-coffee drinker (one of my favorite chais in town, a great selection of teas, frappes, and even Italian sodas).

Afternoon Stroll – Sevier Park

Coffee in hand, continue down the avenue to Sevier Park. This beautiful green space is a favorite of locals and visitors alike with outdoor recreational areas such as tennis and basketball courts, playground equipment, and a paved walking path. The community center houses a gym & fitness center and the 12 South Farmers’ Market is a delicious and fun seasonal offering. Sevier Park is currently renovating several historic buildings & facilities to restore their former beauty and add some amazing upgrades!

Dinner – Epice

When it’s time for another meal, Epice is a must-do. Don’t let the restaurant’s size fool you – it is one of the most unique spots in Nashville. Small but not crowded, minimalist yet stylish, this Lebanese eatery feels on par with the trendiest New York bistro. The food is extremely flavorful, the service fantastic, and it’s the perfect spot for a sophisticated date or girls night. Reservations are highly recommended.

Post-Dinner Drinks – Josephine

To round out the day, head to Josephine for after-dinner drinks. Josephine’s sommelier has carefully curated an excellent wine list, or if you’re in the mood for something more unique, you can choose from their specialty cocktails. The vibe is intimate, cozy, and local and the perfect night cap for your day in 12 South.

Stay – 12 South Carriage House

Instead of just spending the day, turn your visit into a stay-cation and book a reservation at The 12 South Carriage House. This 1 bedroom/1 bath space is stocked with everything you need and all the extras. Located just three houses off 12 Avenue, you are literally steps from all the amazing shopping/dining/leisure activities listed here and so many more.  The only thing more top-notch than the space itself is the hospitality and we promise you’ll have a 5-star experience.

But, sometimes you just want to do something that doesn’t involve consuming calories, delicious though they may be. Below is a list of things to do in Nashville where food/drink is neither required nor socially expected, so there is no need to feel awkward by abstaining!

Crawls/Festivals

Festivals/Craft fairs

It seems like there is some sort of fair or festival nearly every weekend in Nashville! While many of these are centered around food or drinks, not all of them are. Some perennial favorites include the Tomato Art Festival in East Nash, the Nashville Scene’s Crafty Bastards, and the Spring and Fall Tennessee Craft Fairs. And of course the Nashville Flea Market convenes every fourth weekend at the Fairgrounds. The best resource I know for keeping up with all of these festivals is the Nashville Guru events page.

Art Crawls

Nashville has made it so easy – and fun! – to visit its many art galleries and see/purchase local art. On the first Saturday of every month, you can choose between the downtown First Saturday Art Crawl or the WeHo Art Crawl in Wedgewood-Houston. On the 3rd Saturday, head over to Germantown for the 100 Taylor Arts Market.

Museums

Belle Meade Mansion

This former plantation has everything you could want in a mansion tour – a beautifully preserved home, a winery, bourbon tastings, a tour honoring the slaves who worked the plantation – and a very interesting connection to the Kentucky Derby!

Belmont Mansion

If touring historic mansions is your thing, Nashville has no shortage! Tucked away on Belmont University’s gorgeous campus, the Belmont Mansion has a very interesting history which includes housing a Civil War general and a legacy of promoting education for women.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

Sure, this downtown museum attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, but sometimes the tourists know a good thing when they see it, and the CMHOF is a very good thing! A world class museum, the Hall boasts one-of-a-kind artifacts that tell the story of country music from its very inception. Whether you like country music, music in general, pop culture, or history, the CMHOF delivers. And with regularly changing exhibits, you can always catch something new.

A little extra: The Nashville Public Library offers community passports you can check out like a book and receive two tickets for free. If you go this route, though, your dates need to be flexible, as there is a long waiting list. The Museum also typically offers a free day one Saturday in December – if you can brave the crowds, you’ll be rewarded with their beautiful Christmas tree, as well.

Frist Art Museum

The Frist Art Museum is arguably the center of Nashville’s fine arts and cultural life. A beautiful museum in its own right (it’s in Nashville’s former main post office!), the museum has no permanent collection, so you know you’ll always find something new and interesting. And, they offer events for the kiddos, as well as special after-hours events, such as film screenings and live music, every Thursday.

A little extra: The Frist is always free for 18 and under. But the first weekend (Saturday/Sunday) of every month, it’s also free for Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders! The Frist is the only museum in Nashville to offer this benefit, but there are over 250 museums across the country which participate, so be sure to check it out before you travel, as well.

Hermitage

Just up the road from Nashville is Andrew Jackson’s beautiful estate, Hermitage. Wonderfully preserved, beautiful grounds (the last time I was there I saw at least FIVE deer!), and an informative museum, Hermitage is another touristy spot that still deserves a visit from locals. Parking is free and if you do want to consume some calories, you can tour the grounds with a glass of Natchez Hills wine – there’s no reason NOT to go.

A little extra: The Hermitage hosts lots of special events, like haunted tours, whiskey tastings, vintage baseball games, etc. So follow their socials, and you may also find tips on free and discounted days.

National Museum of African American Music

African-Americans and American music are impossible to separate, and the NMAAM is “dedicated to preserving and celebrating the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans.” NMAAM is one of Nashville’s newer museums, officially opening in 2001, and features exhibits on religious music, the blues, jazz, and more.

A little extra: NMAAM is another museum available through the Library’s Community Passport program – but again, you’ll need to have flexible dates as these passes are quite popular!

Honorable Mention

Columbia is a bit outside the scope of the Tip Jar, but if you’re up for a drive, you can visit the home and museum of another President, James K. Polk.

Outdoors

The Adventure Park

For something a little more out of the box, head west to the Adventure Park near Percy Warner Park. With ropes courses, ziplines, bridges, and more, there’s something for everyone in the family, no matter the experience or fitness levels. And, be sure to reserve your tickets for Glow in the Park, the after-dark experience, in advance as it always sells out!

Cheekwood

Arguably the most beautiful gardens in Nashville, Cheekwood is fun to just walk around at any time of year. But, their special events for kids, jazz nights, and the mansion/art museums mean there’s always something new and interesting happening.

A little extra: Yet another in the Library’s Community Passport program, Cheekwood passes are available to check out (special events are excluded). As with the others, you will need to be flexible with your dates to score these passes.

Mural Tour

Spend a day touring all the beautiful murals around town. It’s hard to keep up with all the murals, but Nashville Guru has a pretty comprehensive list, or you can search first for neighborhoods and then click on the “mural” tab. The 12South Carriage House also has a helpful public art crawl guide to the many murals in that neighborhood.

One of my favorite things about Nashville is how much we like to make everything aesthetically pleasing. Oh, that old building wall? Let’s paint a mural on it!

Parks

There are so many great parks in Nashville, narrowing them down is no easy task. Here are a few of my faves.

For hiking and a more in-tune-with-nature experience, Radnor Lake and the Warner Parks (Percy and Edwin) are great go-tos. But, if you don’t mind heading north just a little bit, Beaman Park in Ashland City also offers some great trails that are a little less crowded.

For a park better suited to reading a book, tossing a frisbee, or a casual stroll, my favorites are Sevier Park (which also has a play place for the kids!), Bicentennial (read about the history of Tennessee on the wall surrounding the park), and Centennial (check out the museum inside the Parthenon, too!).

Water Activities

While the lakes and rivers around Nashville are great for boating, in my experience, that does usually involve consuming calories…Here are a couple of options that don’t have to.

Nashville Shores

Located just off the highway in Hermitage, Nashville Shores is a convenient and affordable waterpark, and it offers both lake-attractions as well as traditional pools and waterslides.

Sound Waves

Opryland hotel’s indoor/outdoor water park is a great option for a staycation. The indoor portion is open year round, and there is an adults-only infinity pool, which sounds like a dream.

Physical Activities

Climb Nashville

Yes, these are gyms with traditional memberships. But, they also offer day passes and host parties and group events.

Yoga

Goat Yoga – honestly, I don’t get it. But, I also have allergies and am not very flexible, so don’t take my word for it! If goat yoga is your thing, check out Goat Yoga Nashville in Nolensville or Shenanigoats in Madison (which also offers goat painting!)

Regular Yoga — maybe goats aren’t your thing. If not, you’re still in luck, as there are tons of places around town to practice yoga, besides joining a studio. Church Street Park downtown offers free yoga in the park every Tuesday and Thursday at 6, and Centennial Park also offers free classes on Tuesdays through the summer. And, the Library’s various branches offer yoga throughout the week, so check out their events calendar to see the offerings. FitDowntown offers yoga classes for $15 each, which also typically includes a perk like free admission or a special treat at the host location.

Capitol Steps Workout

If you’re looking for an intense and totally free workout, the Capitol Steps Workout is for you! Join James Crumlin, triathlon coach, Mondays and Thursdays at 6 pm for this group challenge (and you may occasionally run into celebrity trainer, Erin Oprea, too!). While the workout is free, you need to register through Eventbright.

Hot Girl Walks

If a less intensive group workout is more your speed, check out a walking group. These are great ways to meet people in a casual environment – and get your steps in! Be sure to follow City Girls Who Walk for upcoming dates.

Rainy Day Activities

In addition to some of the great indoor activities listed above, here are a few more places to explore on a rainy day.

American Paint Hat Co.

Located in L&L Market and partly owned by Jennifer Wayne of Runaway June, American Paint Hat Co. provides an opportunity for anyone to create the perfect hat! With seemingly unlimited ways to customize from size to shape to band to accessories, American Paint is a great way to be sure you will not have hat-buyer’s remorse (it’s a thing, I’m certain!) and will leave with a hat you will actually wear.

Belcourt Theater

The much beloved Belcourt Theater is a film-lovers paradise. They focus on indie films and documentaries on a very diverse range of topics, but they also show some classic films and cult favorites from time to time. You just never know what you’ll find!

Library activities

You know we love the Library here at the Tip Jar. In addition to the vast collections and the helpful community passes (you can even check out a BCycle pass!), they have so many activities available for all ages, including puppets and story time for the kids, and classes, clubs, and book discussions for adults. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – don’t sleep on NPL!

Lip Lab

Lib Lab in 5th and Broadway is clearly designed to cater to bachelorette parties. But, that doesn’t mean it can’t be a fun thing for locals, too! The create-your-own-lipstick studio allows you to choose the color, finish, name – and even flavor – of your own lipstick! Whether you’re trying to perfectly match a dress or just looking for something fun to do with some friends, Lip Lab is a great option.

McKays

An introvert’s oasis, McKay’s in Bellevue has something for almost every hobby. THOUSANDS of books to peruse, used instruments, games (video and board), and a seemingly endless collection of records, it would be easy to spend hours in McKay’s without even realizing it.

Shopping

Nashville has so many great boutiques, it would be impossible to fully cover them here. But, a cause-based business crawl using my guide will take you to some of the best shops Nashville has to offer – and you can feel good about the money you’re spending!

Smash City Rage Room

Appropriately named for Smashville, this rage room is a great way to get out some stress, anger, or just do something different. Grab a few friends and go destroy some things!

As much as I love a good bargain (and I do!), as I’ve gotten older, I value putting my money where it can do additional good – even if that may cost slightly more. I suspect that many Xennials feel this way (after all, Millenials are the TOMS generation!)

So, if you’d like to put your money to good use AND come away with something for yourself (really, what better bargain is there?), here are a few places around town where you can do just that.

Coffee

Crest Coffee

Although Crest Coffee is next door to a church, it is it’s own unique entity, serving Nashville by partnering with a different community organization each month. Not only does Crest Coffee give back, but their coffee is also completely donation-based, allowing everyone in the community to have the benefit of a good cup o’ joe.

Humphreys Street Coffee

Humphreys Street Coffee in Wedgewood-Houston is a social enterprise of Harvest Hands CDC and employs area youth, giving them not only jobs, but also mentoring opportunities, trainings, and skills that go beyond the workplace. 100% of their profits are reinvested into programs and scholarships that support students. “Our expectation is that the students we employ will transform and impact their own neighborhood in positive ways.”

They also happen to be one of my favorite spots for remote work, and the space itself is a beautiful, light-filled converted former church.

Land of a Thousand Hills

Land of a Thousand Hills coffee in West Nashville has a more global focus. Their Do Good Initiative not only sustainably sources coffee from Rwandan farmers, but also provides health care, schools, and other programs for those farming communities.

The Well

Another favorite spot of mine, the Well uses their profits to help fund clean water projects in the countries from which they source their coffee. But, they don’t forget about their local community either, having partnered with several initiatives to provide clean water and services to those impacted by the 2020 tornado. And, with several locations around Nashville, you’re never too far away to do a little good.

Food/Drink

Christie Cookie Co.

A Nashville original, Christie Cookies are delicious AND they give back, locally and nationally! Check out their “For a Cause” page to see all the special edition cookies you can order to support various organizations.

A little extra: Did you know Christie Cookie Co. is the creator of the DoubleTree cookie?? If you’ve ever stayed at a DoubleTree, you know that is one of the best cookies on the planet!

The Cookery

From their website, “the Cookery is a nonprofit restaurant, cafe, caterer, and event space that trains formerly homeless men in the Culinary Arts to prepare them for employment in Nashville’s food industry.” They are open most days for breakfast and lunch and have a convenient location just beyond the busy district of 12South.

Etch

You know the roasted cauliflower at Etch is delicious. But did you also know that $1 from each order goes towards Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee? A few years ago, it was reported that Etch donated $17,000 dollars from their cauliflower proceeds! You can find Etch in SoBro – and on my guide to happy hours after 5!

Tennessee Brew Works

Every Sunday, Tennessee Brew Works donates $1 from every pint to a local charity or non-profit. Their chosen partner changes quarterly, so follow their Instagram for the latest partner. Sunday Funday and Sunday Give-Back-Day? I’m in.

The Café at Thistle Farms

For over 25 years, “Thistle Farms has lit a pathway of healing and hope for women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction.” The Cafe is one way to support this beautiful mission, as it provides employment for those Thistle Farms serves, as well as an entrepreneurial stream for the organization’s mission (including safe housing, therapy, legal services, and more).

The food is delicious, the service friendly, the space lovely and inviting. It’s a special place.

Shops

ABLE

As beautiful as any boutique in Nashville, Able’s mission is to empower women by providing living wages, ensuring on-the-job safety, and working for equality. They partner with vendors who share that mission and are seeking to bring about change in the fashion industry – at home, and around the world.

Ten Thousand Villages

Although not unique to Nashville, Ten Thousand Villages is one of the leaders in fair-trade merchandising, offering unique gifts from around the world. Their mission is to ensure makers earn a fair, living wage in safe working conditions, to invest in partnerships that empower women and communities, to celebrate diverse cultures, all while caring for the earth.

Project 615

Project 615 t-shirts and hats have become nearly ubiquitous with Nashville, and it’s easy to see why! With soft fabric, high quality printing, and catchy slogans (my personal favorite is “I climbed Mt. Juliet”), what’s not to love? Plus, since they started in 2010, Project 615 has donated nearly $1,000,000 to world-changing causes and local non-profits. They live our their most well-known t-shirt every day and “Spread Love. It’s the Nashville Way.”

Thistle Farms

You can read about the mission above, but the shop is just as worth a visit as the café! Gorgeous hand made accessories, deliciously scented soaps and candles, and a full line of natural bath products, Thistle Farms is the best place to treat yourself or find some gifts – while also supporting their incredible programs.

Other

The Listening Room

At least monthly, The Listening Room hosts Sound Good, Do Good – donating the cover charges from the events to non-profits or people in need. Check their calendar or socials for the next opportunity to give back while hearing some of the best music in town!

The Russell and the Gallatin Hotel

The Russell and its sister hotel, the Gallatin, both offer unique, boutique stays in East Nashville. The Russell is in a beautiful, reclaimed church with gorgeous stained glass windows. The Gallatin is also a reclaimed church, but it has a more eclectic feel with a different color scheme per floor (that carries down to the room refrigerators!). But, even better, much of their proceeds support local homeless ministries, with the Russell’s website estimating that the average stay provides 16 beds and meals at local shelters. So, whether you are on a staycation or have friends coming to visit, be sure to put the Russell and the Gallatin at the top of the list of places to stay!
